MARAN, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- The Rural and Regional Development Ministry has until August this year spent RM279 million to carry out infrastructure development projects in Pahang.

Its minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said the allocation was for various projects such as Housing Aid Programmes, clean water, electricity and roads.

He said the allocation was also to build 985 units of new houses and an additional RM98.7 million for the construction of 155km of roads in rural areas.

"The initiative taken by Barisan Nasional was to reduce poverty and at the same time to provide the facilities and comfort for those living in rural areas," he said during a breaking of fast with Risda's second-generation and smallholders at the Pahang Smallholders Development Institute in Kampung Awah yesterday.

During the session, he also handed out additional economic aid worth RM140,000 to 14 entrepreneurs, dividend for Replanting Commercial activities worth RM1.5 million to 273 participants and Hari Raya aid to orphans.
