TEMERLOH, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) plans to set up an academy to train entrepreneurs about business fundamentals to help them succeed in the field, its chairman Datuk Amir Hamzah Ahmad said.
He said the agency had so far created over 200,000 entrepreneurs including 20 who had become millionaires.
"Although most of them have successfully started their business with RM2,000 in initial capital, there is a need for a more comprehensive and affirmative measure to help them succeed further," he told reporters here Sunday.
Meanwhile, he said, the RM100 million allocated to the AIM in the 2012 Budget tabled on Friday, would allow the poor people to obtain loans to venture into business.
"There are about 100,000 AIM borrowers, with loans totalling RM800 million as of last year. Of these, 99.8 per cent are repaying their loans on schedule," he said.
Since its inception in 1987 the AIM has given out over RM5 billion in loans to AIM participants nationwide.
