HDC to extend Halal programme to other states

Kuala Lumpur, 11 August: The Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) aims to extend the success of its recent inaugural Halal Transformation Programme (HTP) in Pahang to other states.

"The HTP was a people-stirring event, aimed at increasing the entrepreneurial spirit among grassroots and to take a more serious role in the development of the Halal industry," the HDC said in a statement Thursday.

Held in Gambang, Pahang last month, the two-day event was co-organised with the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) and attracted close to 20,000 visitors.

"It was also for the benefit of ATM's pensioners to turn entrepreneurs for the Halal industry," the statement said.

HDC Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Jamil Bidin said:"With this experience, we intend to mobilise our resources and integrate with the people in other towns, as part of the roadshow to convey the message of Halal entrepreneurial development.

"We need to convey the story of business opportunities in a rising industry that is shared by 1.8 billion other Muslims worldwide."

HDC hopes to take the HTP to Jeli, Kelantan in September and then to Pagoh, Johor and Sarawak.

It was recently requested to organise the HTP in Johor and Terengganu.
