KUANTAN: The East Coast Highway (LPT) management MTD Capital Sdn Bhd has allocated RM80mil per year to improve its facilities and services as the comfort and safety of its road users are of paramount importance.
The company’s highway division chief Wan Razali Wan Muda said maintenance including upgrading and road repair works on the highway was a continuous process because road surfaces were affected due to siltation, earth movement, heavy usage, weather and other factors.
“We admit that there are roads that need to be repaired and we will do the repairing and upgrading.
“Of course it will affect the comfort of our road users because they have to bear with the road closures and diversions.
“However, these repairs and upgrading works are necessary and road users have to be patient,” he said.
Wan Razali also said the present road works in its first phasewould end by the end of this month.
“After this phase, we will continue to check on other affected areas from time to time.
“If repairs are needed, we will do the necessary,” he said.
Wan Razali said the road condition has been blamed for accidents but feels that there would be less accidents if motorists adhere to the speed limit.
“In any situation, driving over the speed limit poses danger to motorists. However, we have continuously checked the causes of the accidents and found ways to prevent these from occuring,” he told reporters after the tree planting programme along the highway from Gambang to Maran area in conjunction with the World Enviromental Day recently.
