Kuantan International Airport
New international airport in Kuantan expected to be operational in 2026 — MB
The RM2 billion Kuantan International Airport which will be part of the Pahang aerospace city project in Gebeng near here will be fully operational in 2026. The existing Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Airport will be moved to the new location to support the Third National Physical Plan, where the high impact project site will serve as an integrated national transit (air, land and sea) city.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said Gading Group Bhd is the main developer appointed by the Pahang government to build the Kuantan International Airport along with the aerospace city mixed development project at a site measuring 5,042ha in Gebeng would be a catalyst for Pahang’s economic growth involving Gross Development Value (GDV) of RM7.5 billion a year or equivalent to RM150 billion in 20 years besides the state government aiming to capture at least one percent of the Asia Pacific Maintenance, Overhaul & Repair market ( MRO ) estimated to be worth RM15 trillion.
Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the project will open up job opportunities with a target of 20,000 jobs for airport operations and 30,000 other skilled and semi-skilled jobs through the development of the industrial, services and tourism sectors. In addition, The project also takes into account the economic hub factor as it is located in the Gebeng industrial area and near Kuantan Port and the East Coast Rail Link Project (ECRL) and this will attract investors to invest in Pahang.
